Anatolian Civilizations Museum

The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, located in Ankara province of Turkey, is just like a gift for history lovers. This superb museum is the perfect introduction to the complex weave of Turkey’s ancient past, with its beautiful artifacts picked from just the significant archaeological site in Anatolia.

Very few places in the world could give you a chronological understanding of mankind’s mind-boggling progress. Anatolian Civilizations Museum in Ankara is one of them. Arranged as a chronological spiral, this museum will take you on a journey from 900 thousand years ago, to the present time.

The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations has on display priceless artifacts dating from the Paleolithic and Neolithic Ages and from Hittite, Phrygian, Urartu, and Roman civilizations.

Tour of Göreme. A historical region of Turkey, located among the rock formations, which was first settled back in the Roman period.

Many rock churches can be seen today, as Christianity was then the prevailing religion in that region.

Continue to the town of Avanos, renowned for the town of Avanos, renowned for its high-quality earthenware Also visit Pasabagi, the  Red Valley, and attend a brief regional pottery workshop in a cave.

Asagi Mahalle or Cappadocia Lodge

We visited this pottery workshop on our trip to Capadoccia. One of our traveler’s companions she tried her hands at spinning on the pottery wheel, and we were treated to a nice cup of apple tea. The workshop has a showroom in the back, and we were able to get some unique pieces, to take back home to the US. This was a nice break from all the trekking we were doing all day. Well worth the visit, especially if you are interested in buying some pottery

Wednesday, May 01, 2019: Cappadocia – Pamukkale

Depart for Pamukkale. En route, we visit the famous mausoleum of the Sufi philosopher Mevlana in Konya.

Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in Pamukkale.

Visit the unique Cotton Fortress, the white calcium cascades formed by mineral springs, and the ruins of the Roman health spa of Hierapolis. Continue to Kusadasi for dinner and an overnight stay.

Friday, May 03 2019: Ephesus & Virgin Mary’s House

After breakfast, tour visiting the ruins of Ephesus and explore the 2.000-year-old marble streets, a theater, the Library of Celsius, and Hadrian’s Temple before taking a short drive to see the Virgin Mary’s cottage.

Saturday May 04 2019: Pergamum – Troy- Canakkale

Visit the ancient medical center Asklepion in Pergamum. Continue to a traditional village where we had lunch with locals.

Then continue to Troy with its legendary walls and the replica of the Trojan War. Continue to Canakkale for dinner and an overnight stay

Sunday May 05 2019: Gallipoli – Dardanelles – Istambul

After breakfast, depart to Gallipoli, the site of many battles during WWI.

Visit Anzac Cove, the Lone Pine Cemetery, and Chunuk Bair.

Cross the Dardanelles to Istambul.

Enjoy a farewell dinner
